What is the difference between cement mortar, ceramic tile glue and ceramic tile back glue? Which material is more suitable for tile laying?

Ceramic tile paving is undoubtedly one of the most important items in decoration. If ceramic tile paving is not done well, it is easy to have problems such as hollowing, falling off and cracking, which are very difficult to solve.

There are many stresses on ceramic tile paving, one of which is the paving method of ceramic tile, such as wet paving, dry paving and glue paving; When paving, there are also many choices of bonding materials, such as cement mortar, ceramic tile glue and ceramic tile back glue.

In the face of such complex decoration terms, I believe many people are confused, do not know the difference between them, and do not know which is better when paving ceramic tiles. Today, let's talk about these problems.

1. Cement mortar

The traditional ceramic tile paving mainly adopts the cement mortar paving method. The cement mortar is actually the ceramic tile bonding material formed by the mixing of cement, sand and water according to a certain proportion. After the cement mortar is set, it will produce a strong bonding force to make the ceramic tile firmly bonded to the wall and ground.

2. Ceramic tile glue

Ceramic tile adhesive, also known as ceramic tile adhesive and adhesive paste, its raw materials are mainly cement, quartz sand, glue powder, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, starch ether, etc., which is similar to cement powder. It needs to be mixed with water and mixed into paste before use.

Ceramic tile adhesive has strong adhesion, so it is a ceramic tile bonding material used to replace traditional cement mortar. During tile paving, the bricklayer will scrape tile glue on the back of the tile, the wall and the ground respectively, and then press the tile on the wall and the ground for paving.

3. Ceramic tile back glue

Ceramic tile back glue, also known as ceramic tile back glue, is two completely different things from cement mortar and ceramic tile glue. It does not belong to binder, but an interface treatment material, which is used to brush on the back of ceramic tile like glue.

When laying ceramic tiles, we will apply ceramic tile adhesive on the back of the ceramic tiles. After the ceramic tile adhesive is dried, we will lay it on the wall and ground with the help of cement mortar and ceramic tile adhesive.

Therefore, the function of ceramic tile back glue is only to increase the bonding force between ceramic tile and binder, and play a transitional and connecting role between ceramic tile and binder. It does not directly contact with wall and ground, and cannot be used instead of binder.

What's the difference?

As mentioned above, ceramic tile back glue is not ceramic tile adhesive, so it can not be compared with ceramic tile glue and cement mortar.

Generally speaking, when we pave ceramic tiles, if we want to ensure that the ceramic tile adhesive fits closely and avoid hollowing and falling off of ceramic tiles, we can apply glue on the back of ceramic tiles, especially when the size of ceramic tiles is relatively large and it is necessary to make floor tiles on the wall. What's the difference between cement mortar and ceramic tile glue?

The thickness of traditional cement mortar is relatively large and the bonding force is poor. After paving, the ceramic tile is easy to bulge and fall off; In addition, ceramic tile glue also has good crack resistance, impermeability and water resistance.

Many people think that the purchase cost of ceramic tile glue is more expensive than cement mortar, so it is more economical to lay ceramic tiles with cement mortar. In fact, it is not. Combined with material consumption, construction period, construction difficulty and labor cost, laying ceramic tiles with ceramic tile glue can save decoration cost.
