Application of HPMC in textile and coating printing and dyeing

Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, also known as hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and cellulose ether HPMC, has been used in paint stripper. HPMC and paraffin can be mixed in the mixed solution of water / alcohol / dichloromethane, which can block the solvent volatilization and make the paint remover suitable for surface paint removal. It is mixed with low-grade fatty alcohol to give the paint remover thixotropy. Among the paint remover components, HPMC is mostly mixed with paraffin wax, dichloromethane, low-grade fatty alcohol, ammonium salt, soda and water. It can remove air dried paint or dry synthetic enamel (such as urea formaldehyde, melamine formaldehyde resin, etc.) film. It softens or melts the old paint, and it is easy to scrape off or flush with water. There are also some paint removers which are used to treat the old paint on bronze objects and then wash them with solvent. The representative fast paint remover is composed of MC, dichloromethane, methanol, methyl benzyl alcohol, ethylbenzene, thiourea, paraffin and water. For epoxy primer with a thick layer of alkyd / melamine resin coating, the paint remover can be dissolved after 7 minutes, and then washed with strong water flow.

The application of HPMC in textile and printing and dyeing is characterized by toughness, flexibility, transparency and stickiness, as well as its compatibility with common textile sizing agents and modifiers, which makes it suitable for warp sizing and fabric glazing. For example, 2.5% water-insoluble HPMC is dissolved in 5% NaOH aqueous solution to treat the fabric. After removing the excess water, the fabric is coagulated with 10% acetic acid aqueous solution, and then dried; The mixture of MC and surfactant can also be used as sizing solution for cotton fabric, for example, 5% - 15% mixture containing 25% - 90% HPMC and 10% - 75% n-acetylethanolamine can be used as sizing solution for synthetic yarn or natural yarn. It has strong adhesion to the surface of yarn, and 0.05% wetting agent such as alkyl aryl polyether alcohol and defoamer such as tributyl phosphate can be added into the mixture In order to improve the adhesion to nylon yarn, 620.5% ~ 2% gluconic acid can be added; HPMC can also be dissolved in the dispersant of polyethylene powder, which can be used for the thermoplastic setting of fabrics; the polyester fiber is treated with the dilute alkaline solution of HPMC, and after a short time of heat treatment (> 120 ℃ and < polyester melting point), it can give the fabric a silky feel.


It is found that HPMC is effective in thickening textile printing and dyeing pulp. High viscosity HPMC can be used to prepare oil water emulsion printing and dyeing pulp with good dyeing and printing properties. For many years, the printing and dyeing pulp of HPMC has been used in synthetic fiber or cotton blended fabric, which can be used for continuous dyeing of polyester and cotton blended fabric; If HPMC (DS = 0.7-2.6) is added to cationic dyes or disperse dyes to treat acrylic fiber products, dimensional stability can be maintained; when HPMC is used as thickener to dye polyamide fiber or fabric, the printing and dyeing effect is better than that of resin thickening.

HPMC is dissolved in propylene glycol, and after cooling, the obtained solid gel can be used for sticky or impregnated felt. HPMC and urea formaldehyde polycondensate were sprayed on the surface of wool blanket, which had a soft feel. The non sticky, non agglomerating and non adhering adhesive tapes can be obtained by adding HPMC into NR and impregnating or coating cotton cloth.


The application of hydroxypropylhydroxypropylmethylcellulose coating is used in emulsion and water-soluble resin and other coating components very early. It is used as film forming agent, thickener, emulsifier and stabilizer, etc., which makes the coating have good wear resistance, fluidity, uniformity, storage stability, pH stability and tolerance to heavy metal pigments.

Especially in paper processing, HPMC is used for waxy paper with light base coating components, which can greatly reduce the paraffin penetration and prevent ink or varnish penetration when waxing, improve the luster and brightness of printing paper products, and improve the printing performance of white thin paper and strengthen the strength of kraft paper; It can also be used for recording paper and photosensitive copy paper with black background white coating. It can be used in coating emulsion of pressure sensitive transfer duplicating paper, which plays a role of particle coating. It has good binding force to pigment in the component of paper coating, and can be used as dispersant of pigment for color paper coating.
